"Melody is the beauty of life, harmony is the proof of God" says Baquie who began his musical journey in his native Australia at the tender age of 5 singing as the youngest member of his traveling family band. "As a kid my earliest memories are of my family sitting around the living room at home practicing songs." His parents met in the 60s singing together in an Australian equivalent of Peter, Paul & Mary. Much of Baquie’s musical influences stem from the folk music of his childhood. 25 years later and halfway around the world Baquie still finds himself singing and traveling. After five solo albums Baquie has honed his craft both as a songwriter and performer. He has toured extensively throughout the USA and performed in many countries around the world, sharing the stage with legendary artists such as Steven Curtis Chapman, Rebecca St. James, Nicole Norderman and Sonicflood.
Merging his passion for God and his love for music Baquie has become a poetic sojourn, a revolutionary mover in an era where pop culture demands relativism and plastic truth. Through his songs, Baquie offers a heart bearing the struggles and imperfections of a life thirsting for God in a land of shallow wells. “Truth is knowable, Truth IS Jesus,” says Baquie. “There is so much hurt, hatred and ugliness around us, but in Christ we find real peace, love and beauty. Not in the thin, veneer way sometimes portrayed in commercial Christianity, but in the timeless depths and wonder of our Mysterious yet intimately knowable God. It is in this fascination I find the inspiration to write and share my music.”
Though inspired and passionate, Baquie takes seriously the responsibility to influence his generation. “I know we get way more attention than we ought as “Artists” and I figure it is a privilege to take the platform I have and the ears and eyes that look and listen and whisper the love of God and point them in His direction. One of the greatest compliments I have ever had as an Artist was overhearing a couple talk at the end of a concert… they were not talking about how great the show was, but about how they had been drawn closer to Jesus through it, that’s what this is about.”
Baquie is now based in Nashville, TN with his wife of 6 years, Roxann and their dog (maddie) and cat (Howie). When he is not on the road with his band or producing for other artists, he and his wife enjoy traveling overseas, watching movies and drinking Arabic coffee.
